Alice Virginia Reiter Dzenkowski, died April 1, 2020. She was 94 years old. Alice was born in Greenport January 19, 1926, the only child of Margery (Van Wyck) and Alfred Reiter.
Alice graduated from Greenport High School. She along with two former classmates, were honored to christen one of the Landing Crafts built at the Greenport Shipyard for use in World War II. Alice then worked for the American Red Cross in Washington, DC and later worked as a riveter at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in San Diego.
After returning to her hometown of Greenport, she met and married Andrew T. Dzenkowski in 1947. First helping on the Dzenkowski family farm in East Marion, Alice then worked for the USDA Plum Island Disease Center, retiring as a Supervisory Purchasing Agent after twenty years, and then worked another twenty years for East End Marine Supply in Greenport.
Ms. Dzenkowski was a member of St. Agnes RC Church, had formed and was scout leader for the East Marion Girl Scout troop. She enjoyed painting, quilting-projects, researching genealogy and was an avid reader, particularly of the local East End history.
Predeceased by her husband, Andrew, Ms. Dzenkowski is survived by her three children: Kim (Betsy) of East Marion, Drew (Rod) Kaelin of Edgewater, FL and Beth (James) Dzenkowski-Danaher of East Marion. She is also survived by four grandsons: Richard A. Walker, Warren Walker, Alfred Dzenkowski and Andrew W. Dzenkowski; and four great-grandchildren.
A private burial will take place at the Reiter family plot at Arshamomoque Cemetery. A memorial service "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date to be announced.
