Although I never met Margaret Mary, I want to express my deepest sympathies to her family. My mother, Margaret Duggan Willis was her cousin and talked about her often over the years until she passed away in 2001. My family was so very proud of Margaret Mary and all she had accomplished during her lifetime. My mothers parents were William (John Duggan's brother) and Gertrude Duggan. They are both buried here in Houston, Texas close to my mother and Margaret Mary's other cousin Patricia Duggan Cashin. I'm so thankful for the lovely picture that was posted. May God grant Margaret Mary eternal rest.

Margaret was my colleague and friend for eighteen years in the English Department at SDSU, She was a great support, a good person to socialize with, and a fellow scholar who modeled active research and thought and integrity, for us all.
I kept in contact when she retired, and even though that later contact was not frequent, her death now removes forever the grace of her lively and wide-ranging intellect, her keen social conscience, her humor-- and that unique attitude of kindly skepticism toward the world that hid a big heart. Margaret, may God, who blessed us with your presence, bring you now into eternal peace.
Deepest sympathies to her beloved family members and friends back East.

Margaret and I worked together in the late 1960s on the John Jay Papers, a research project housed in Butler Library at Columbia. We remained friends over the years -- largely unseen, but never out of touch thanks to letters and occasional phone calls. I'll never forget her wit, her humor, her pure Irish charm. My thanks to Leslie Davis for letting me know of Margaret's passing -- I'll share the sad news with other friends from those years on Morningside Heights. Best wishes to her family at this sad time. The picture you posted is lovely. I am not sure if Margaret was the oldest of all us cousins but she may have been. We have kept in touch mostly at Christmas as we did again this year. Our sincere condolences to Michael and his other sister Margaret, she never failed to mention them in her correspondence. Aunt Magdalene used to visit her sister Kathleen every year and always brought us news of Margaret's latest scholarly achievements, and we were fortunate enough to meet when she visited Newfoundland with her mother some years ago.We knew she was accomplished but appreciate the details of the obituary to fill in the details. Much love to all our extended family, I am leaving my email in case any Flannerys want to come visit the family here sometime.

I was very sorry to hear of my cousin Margaret Duggan's passing. It was only last week that I received the annual Christmas card from her. There is no mistaking the family features when I see the photo of Margaret. I wish I had been able to visit her last spring when I was in New York but it was not meant to be. We corresponded over the years, as did other members of my family. I send condolences from the White family in Newfoundland. She is at peace now with Aunt Kathleen and Uncle John.
